Are arowanas difficult fish to keep in the aquarium?
No, they are relatively easy fish to keep and look after in the tank by someone with a little experience and understanding of fishkeeping

Why are arowanas so expensive?
A combination of rarity, poor breeding rate and because it is an endangererd fish.

Can you differentiate between a male fish and a female fish?
You can't definitely sex arowanas, but males tend to have a bigger mouth as they are the ones that do the mouthbrooding.

How big do they grow to?
In captivity, up to 24" given the right conditions, and anything up to 30" in the wild

I am new to the hobby, what shall I start with?
It is prudent to start with a silver arowana if you are fairly new to the hobby and progress to an asian arowana in time.

Has anyone bred arowanas in a tank before?
Yes, breeders in Japan have achieved this amazing feat, see link on top

Why are there so many different arowana names?
Different farms badge their fish differently eg. Chilli, Super Red, Violet Fusion, VIP red are all types of red arowana from different farms.

Do wild caught arowanas have better colour?
No they don't, that is if you are able to get one from the wild. Present methods of cross breeding have produce arowanas of exceptional colour and quality

Where is the microchip inserted in the fish?
Usually in the abdominal cavity and less often in the dorsal region

What is the best arowana to start with?
i would go for a silver if you are completely new to the hobby, progressing to a green when you have more experience
